Justin Fields is officially on the board.

The Ohio State quarterback declared for the NFL Draft on Monday, as expected, and will give the Jets something to think about with the No. 2 pick in April.

“Growing up, my dream was to one day play the game that I love at the highest level,” Fields wrote in his announcement posted to Twitter. “Now thanks to God’s grace and mercy, along with the help of you all, I am in a position to turn that dream into reality. And for that reason, I am foregoing my senior year and declaring for the 2021 NFL Draft.”

While Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence is the consensus No. 1 pick, Fields could be the next quarterback taken, with BYU signal caller Zach Wilson also shooting up draft boards. It remains to be seen whether the Jets will pick a quarterback or potentially trade down, but the Falcons (No. 4), Lions (No. 7) and Panthers (No. 8) could also be in the market for a QB.

As a two-year starter at Ohio State, Fields went 20-2 while leading the Buckeyes to the College Football Playoff semifinal in 2019 and championship game in 2020. The 6-foot-3, 228-pound dual-threat quarterback completed 68.4 percent of his passes for 5,701 yards, 67 touchdowns and nine interceptions during his college career. He also ran 260 times for 1,133 yards and 19 touchdowns.

Fields, who started his college career at Georgia before transferring to Ohio State, played like a star in this year’s CFP semifinal as the Buckeyes upset Clemson. He gutted through an injury to pass for 385 yards and six touchdowns before having a quieter game in the championship loss to Alabama.

“My path to The Ohio State University was not a direct one, but I could not have asked for a better final destination,” Fields wrote in his announcement.
