Former President Donald Trump mocked President Biden in a podcast, saying he forced the nation’s armed forces to become “politically correct” with progressive and gender-inclusive policies.
Trump bashed his successor as turning the American military into a worldwide laughing stock on a podcast with a former White House aide Tuesday.
“I think they’re laughing at us like they never laughed before,” Trump said on “America First with Sebastian Gorka.”
“You look at what’s going on legally within the Army. I asked someone the other day, so if a general tells a private, what to do. If the general’s slightly harsh, is that acceptable? And they weren’t sure how to answer the question.”
He added, “Do you understand? This is just crazy what’s going on.”
Gorka had just asked Trump about “female-shaped body armor” and “maternity flight suits” in the military. He also insisted that “morale is not good” at the Fort Bragg Army base.
Gorka’s questions came a day after Biden nominated the first female Army secretary — and after he repealed Trump’s ban on transgender people serving in the military in January.
Trump didn’t comment specifically on those policies — or on Gorka’s assertions about low morale — but he said Biden’s actions had turned US armed forces soft.
“Our politically correct armed forces, where they’re sending out documents talking about all sorts of things that shouldn’t be discussed — that shouldn’t even be thought about,” he said.
“I think the world is laughing at us,” Trump said. “They weren’t laughing before when we were in.”
The Biden administration has said “America is stronger, at home and around the world, when it is inclusive. The military is no exception.’”
Gorka resigned from his position as a White House aide for Trump in 2017.
