A dog got its paw stuck in an escalator at a New Jersey PATH stop — but the pooch was rescued by some fast-acting Port Authority cops, who even paid the pet’s cab-fare to an animal hospital, officials said Thursday.

The Pomeranian, named Scott, got its back left paw caught in the people-mover at the Journal Square stop just after 1 p.m. Wednesday, officials said.

After the pup loudly yelped and his owner screamed, the officers jumped into action.

“I didn’t have a second thought when it came to cries for help,” said one of the responding cops, Officer Anthony Manfredini.

The officers stopped the escalator, pried open the grate and quickly pulled the pet to safety, according to authorities.

The dog needed medical attention for the multiple cuts on its leg, but the owner had no way to get Scott checked out.

So the Port Authority cops stepped up again — flagging down a taxi and paying the cab fare for the two to go to the closest animal hospital, according to officials.

“Many of us are dog owners ourselves and know that your pets are like family to you and therefore members of our community too,” Officer Andrew Vignapiano said.
