Kieffer Bellows, the 22-year-old winger who was the Islanders’ first-round draft choice in 2016 and made his NHL debut last year by recording three points (2-1) in eight games, participated in the team’s Phase 3 summer camp but was not included on the bubble roster.

An explanation was probably provided by the AHL, which announced Friday that Bellows had violated terms of the league’s performance-enhancing substances program.

The Islanders put out a non-statement, statement from president/GM Lou Lamoriello as follows: “In response to the American Hockey League announcement regarding Kiefer Bellows, we will let their statement speak for itself and have no further comment.”
