Odell Beckham Jr. is a free agent, and at least one team has emerged as a potential destination.

According to The Athletic, the Patriots and Beckham’s camp have had contract.

“My sense is that Odell Beckham Jr. is and has been weighing options,” tweets Kim Jones of WFAN and NFL Media. “Will sleep on possible decision, which could — could — come tomorrow.”

The Patriots have had some successes and failures with reclamation projects. Randy Moss and Corey Dillon worked out quite well. Chad Ochocinco, Michael Floyd, and Cam Newton did not. Antonio Brown was on the path toward working out for them on the field, but his off-field turmoil prevented that from happening.

Patriots quarterback Mac Jones likely would welcome the talented wide receiver, despite the fact he has flamed out with the Giants and Cleveland Browns.

“I think Odell’s a great player. I watched him growing up,” Jones told WEEI earlier this week. “That’s not my decision, but we’re open to have whoever wants to come here and help us win. You’ll have to ask people with higher knowledge than me on that one, but we’re not opposed to it at all.”

In his return from ACL surgery this season, Beckham has just 17 catches for 232 yards, with no touchdowns, in six games. His release from the Browns came after his father shared a video showing times that his son was open but not hit by Cleveland quarterback Baker Mayfield.

The Patriots (5-4) are just a half-game behind the 5-3 Buffalo Bills for first place in the AFC East. Whether or not Bill Belichick opts for the risk/reward of adding Beckham to their pursuit of a division crown remains to be seen — as does whether Beckham will choose New England over other options that emerge.
