The top center fielder on the MLB free-agent market — arguably the best hitter available this offseason — may be looking for a new home.

George Springer, the former UConn star who has spent his entire career playing for the Astros, could be on the move, according to Patrick Creighton of ESPN 97.5.

Creighton reported that, according to sources, Springer wants to leave the Astros after pre-season talk of an extension never materialized. A three-time All-Star, Springer turned 31 in September and could be a target of the Mets, who are in desperate need of a right-handed bat and a center fielder. The expectation is the Mets, under expected new owner Steve Cohen, will be active on the free-agent market to plug holes. Another potential landing spot could be the Red Sox, the team Springer grew up rooting for.

During the shortened season, Springer slashed .265/.359/.540 with 14 home runs, 32 RBIs and a .899 OPS. He went deep four times in the postseason, leading the Astros to the ALCS, where they lost in seven games to the Rays.
