WASHINGTON — GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz, one of President Trump’s fiercest advocates in Congress, accused fellow Republicans of throwing in the towel after the race was called for Joe Biden on Saturday.

“Some Republicans are ready to throw in the towel now and fight for a future election. There is no future for the Republican Party if we do not stand and fight for @realDonaldTrump in this critical moment,” the Florida congressman wrote on Twitter.

In an interview on Fox News’s “Hannity” on Friday night, the 38-year-old lawmaker said an audit needed to be completed among the many claims of fraud that Trump’s re-election campaign has been peddling since it began trailing Biden in the vote count.

Gaetz warned that Republicans would “never win another election ever again” if they didn’t fight the results.

“President Trump is not just fighting for his own political fortune here, he’s fighting for the rest of us,” Gaetz told anchor Sean Hannity.

“If we allow dead people to vote, if we allow people who have moved out of their state to vote in that state, if we allow illegal ballots to be counted and if we allow ballots to be counted without the transparency and observation that the law requires, Republicans will never win another election ever again,” he said.

Trump’s campaign is mounting a large legal fight to challenge the vote count is swing states which are leaning toward Biden, taking the matter all the way to the Supreme Court.

The silence from Republican leadership has been deafening in the wake of Biden’s win, with Senate Majority Leader Sen. Mitch McConnell and House Minority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy neither congratulating the former veep or rushing to Trump’s defense.

McConnell’s last statement on Twitter called for every vote to be counted, countering Trump’s frantic pleas to “STOP THE COUNT.”
