What this kitty lacks in eyes and hair he makes up for in Instagram followers.
Jasper the cat is hairless by nature, but he hasn’t always lacked eyeballs: Owner Kelli adopted the Maine-bred kitty when he was 2 years old and, while born coatless, he still sported both his large, green eyes. But Jasper had feline herpes, which caused his eyes to become runny as a symptom during the virus’ occasional flareups.
While a seemingly mild condition, it likely contributed to Jasper eventually developing a corneal ulcer, first in his right eye and then, a few years later, in his left, reported Jam Press. Unfortunately, the only medical response to the ulcers was to remove each eye, leaving Jasper with an even more distinctive look.
Despite — or, possibly because of — his unique appearance, Jasper has found a huge following on Instagram, where he goes by Jazzy Purs. The popular feline has racked up over 81,000 followers on the platform, where his human frequently posts photos of him modeling his extensive wardrobe of cute cat apparel.
Jasper even now has his own clothing line, donating many of the proceeds to social causes — and this is despite having a stroke in April 2019 which now leaves the blind, 12-year-old fur ball periodically confused.
While he is permanently plagued by medical issues, and reportedly finds his two younger cat siblings exasperating, Jasper is living his best life, his owner says.
“Mama says I am living proof that cats have nine lives,” Kelli captioned a photo of Jasper following his most recent recovery from a medical scare. “I’m feeling much better now though! Happy to be home and getting lots of extra love and cuddles, plus some yummy goo stuff that’s supposed to help me gain weight. Mama also told me all about the nice messages from all of you! It’s nice to be so loved.”
