I had lunch here yesterday & was impressed by the staff, the location, the decor, and the food was delicious! The chargrilled octopus was divine! The ice cream was a treat too. Can’t wait to come back, my new favourite place.
I really wanted to love this place but the food was disappointing. The only option for gluten free fish and chips was to grill the fish of the day, which was Tommy Ruff at the time. The fish was not filleted and full of tiny little bones which made it impossible to eat. Adding filleted fish to the menu or at least a fish without so many bones might be a good idea!

I think our main issue here was the service. We came on the hype of Simon Wilkinson’s review and the brilliant (well deserved) reputation of Simon Cardashe. I don’t know what I was expecting, but I was open minded, however the ‘fish and chipper’ it wasn’t and the ‘fine dining restaurant’ it wasn’t. All of Simon C’s other venues are a refreshing take on a standard format. I think Sea Salt wants to be in this category, but the space (decor and size) let it down and the service was shocking. Food was strong, but frighteningly expensive, therefore couldn’t climb over our other issues. My advice: know what you are and why you’re there and I then honour that. It will lead to less disappointment and end up dealing with its current identity crisis. I think the answer to that question will fix the service which was poor at best and not lead to the disappointment we suffered. Uber each way $50, expensive food for average result due to non-existent service. I hope you can understand our frustration.

Went across the road to check out the new fish and chips shop sea salt. I ordered an onion rings ($7) and large chips ($9). The chips didn't seem super special but we're still quite satisfying. The onion rings however were some of the best onion rings I have had in a very long time. They were well fried and melted in your mouth. If you are going to visit I definitely recommend trying them. Will try some more food over the next few weeks but it seems like a great edition to Henley Beach already.

Worst cafe i've been to. The older staff acted like we inconvenienced them by being there. Food was tiny and over priced $30+ for fish and chips. They should be happy we chose them out of the many amazing places by the beach to eat at but the whole time i felt like the staff wanted us gone. I would have been more forgiving if the food was actually good... Shit. Spat it back in my napkin. Made me feel sick.
