I think New Shanghai makes delicious food and I enjoy the loud, crowded atmosphere. The people that work there can be quite slow and can make mistakes with orders. I recommend New Shanghai to people that don't mind the bustling service and that have time to wait for good Chinese food.

I wrote this after having awoken in the middle of the night about a week ago in absolute pain and then spent the next hour on the toilet bowl, basically wishing for death. Where do I start with how awful this place was? 1. We were halfheartedly greeted and then told to sit wherever. 2. I ordered a lemon lime bitters which must have been 50% bitters and only filled just over half way. 3. We ordered two entrees of pork ribs and pork buns and then a main of rainbow beef to share. The HUGE main came out first, a mountain of fairly tasty meat but with shrivelled, microscopic veggies and what looked like limp sprouts draped pathetically on top. 4. The ribs that arrived next were also microscopic and presented in a small, shallow plate swimming with sauce. We were lucky to find any meat on them at all, they were just teeny bones with gristle. 5. The pork buns took ages to arrive and were extremely hot to the touch. After letting them cool and trying to bite into them, a river of scalding water oozed out! The buns were about the size of a tennis ball and the meat inside was about the size of a 10c coin - hot water filled the rest of the empty space, about three teaspoons in each bun! We were literally draining and wringing them out. 6. The decor would've been nice except for the entirely exposed ceiling, really bright lights, the unweildy paper menus and the uncomfortable chairs that are basically sized for toddlers. 7. When we paid for the dinner the woman behind the register did not even greet or farewell us or ask for feedback. 8. And to top it all off, one of the things (or all of the things) I ate gave me food poisoning. This was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had, and me and my liquefied insides are filled with regret. DO NOT GO HERE.

The best vegetable dumplings Ive ever had. Customer service mostly average except this one guy who went out of his way to tell us what is vegan, he's always very friendly. Had to wait 30+ mins for a meal a few times but it's worth the wait. The salt and pepper garlic tofu is a standout dish.

MASSIVELY overpriced food. Terrible service. What's more, they have been found to underpay workers.

Terribly slow service. We didn't get our drinks until we had almost finished our dinner. We waited ages for our last dish to come out. When we asked the waitress she then decided to tell us that they had sold out of that particular dish. We still come here often because the food is really good.
